Friends of the Library

Annual Book Sale

Be sure to stop by the library every other Monday starting March 31st, between 10:30 pm and 12:30 pm for the Friends’ bi-weekly Book Sorting Party! Enjoy coffee and baked goodies as we sort book donations by subject for our annual book sale. The library is accepting donations but remember– No text books or manuals please!

Letter from the Co-Presidents

Start your spring by actively joining the Friends of the Mendham Borough Library. In the last year, this terrific group of dedicated volunteers raised over $30,000 to buy all of the new books, DVDs and other materials for the library.

There is a chance that you are a member of friends already! If you have attended even one library fundraiser or made any donation to the library in the last year, you are already a member of the Friends. We welcome you to help us this year in planning our events and bringing them to everyone in town.

All our fundraisers are such enjoyable and successful events because of wonderful volunteers. We would love to have you join this great group of people; please call the library at 973 543 4152 to let us know that you are interested.

Friends Officers:

Past Friends Happenings

Thank you all for your wonderful support of our annual fundraiser held on Saturday, February 2nd at Mendham Health and Racquet Club. Significant effort went into the planning and hosting of our third Family Fun Night. The evening was a huge success, enjoyed by many Friends of the Library. Thank you for joining us.

Many thanks to our Friends of the Mendham Borough Library, for all their hard work putting together a wonderful Fall fundraiser. Steven and Mimi Sclafani lent us their lovely home, and Beth Beirals and her crew of volunteers made it a great evening. All proceeds from the party will be used to purchase new items for the Library's collection.

In May, the Friends of the Mendham Borough Library coordinated a Book and Bake Sale for the community. A special thanks goes out to over 50 volunteers who dedicated their time to making this year's event a a wonderful success. These efforts not only raised twice as much money as in 2006 to buy books for our own library, but, at the end of the sale, left over books were sent on to seniors in Mendham and Chester, to local foster families, to the AAUW for their upcoming sale, and to the North American Taiwanese Women's Association, who sends the books to children's libraries in Taiwan.

A Look at the Past...

According to a brief history, Mendham has been fortunate to maintain a public library since 1797. Begun as the Mendham Library Company, transformed into The Literary Club and the Book and Thimble Club, this generous and supportive community has always made the library a top priority. The Book and Thimble Club was so named because a member of the club would read while others would sew items for a yearly bazaar that funded the library’s collections.

Formed in the 1970s, the Friends of the Mendham Borough Library (our modern day Book and Thimble Club) run friend and fund raising events that also go directly to maintaining the library’s collections.

Help us continue these great Mendham traditions -- join the Friends today and be an integral part of making these events memorable. The Friends are actively looking for volunteers so please contact the library for more information if you would like to help.
